Last night at the Doug Fir Lounge we decided to try something new.

It’s a Christmas miracle!

Well, maybe not a miracle, but we’re excited announce that our

A LITTLE HISTORY BEHIND THE SONG: The words were composed by one of America’s best known poets, Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow on December 25th 1864. The carol was originally a
poem, “Christmas Bells,” containing seven stanzas. Two stanzas were
omitted, which contained references to the American Civil War, thus
giving us the words in its present form. The poem gave birth to the
carol, “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” and the remaining five
stanzas were slightly rearranged in 1872 by John Baptiste Calkin, who
also gave us the memorable tune. When Longfellow penned the words to
his poem, America was still months away from Lee’s surrender to Grant;
and his poem reflected the prior years of the war’s despair, while
ending with a confident hope of triumphant peace.

There are also a few Youtube diaries we made during the recording
process which you can watch here:

We hope this adds to your enjoyment of the Christmas season.

We truly
do appreciate all of your support!

Peace, goodwill and fruitcakes be unto all of you!

Mixed, mastered and almost pressed!

It’s been a while since our last update, but it’s not due to a lack of activity! A lot of hard work is starting to pay off as we make the final preparations on our debut EP.  In fact, we just finished mixing the album this past week and it’s turning out just as we had hoped.  Sneak peaks will be online as soon as the final masters are complete.

In mixing and producing our EP, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Jeff Stuart Saltzman (whose past credits include Stephen Malkmus, Sleater-Kinney, Death Cab For Cutie, Menomena, and Richmond Fontaine).  When mixing a song, or at least listening to mixes of songs, there are a few factors to consider, such as the mood of the song, lyrics, and what instruments or sounds are most important. However, more basic than that is trying to get each instrument into it’s own sonic space. Next stop is mastering!  Then it’s on to duplication.

We are proud to make our triumphant return to live performance, after a 4 month break to record our album, re-think our songs, and work on new ones. So won’t you join us please in the lovely and historic Washougal, Washington as we take the stage just a few hours before the lovely and historic band Quarterflash. Yes, they will Harden your Heart.

Yes, we’ve been in and out of the studio for the past few weeks, and we’re going back in for a long day tomorrow. We couldn’t be more excited about how it’s turning out; Secret Society is a wonderful studio and Jordan is amazing to work with. We’re about 75% done with recording and hope to finish all the instruments tomorrow. We’ve got a show in the works for late July, so stay tuned for details.
